Buying a Car?  What you Should Know.

It’s that time of year when many of us are in the market for a new car.  We have made it through the worst of Winter (hopefully), and we’re thinking about that convertible, or the perfect car we can use for that cross-country summer vacation.  Over the years, SFM Insurance has learned a lot about what’s important when you’re looking for a new vehicle. Here are the top things you should consider when buying a car.

  1. Know what the car is worth. Before you agree on a final price with either a dealership or an individual seller, know what the true value of the car is. There are many sources you can check for this information, like the manufacturer’s website for new cars, or even the Kelley Blue Book website for used cars.   This should give you some leverage when it comes to negotiating a final price.  Prices can vary based on the condition of the car, the mileage, and even your zip code.
  2. Don’t buy too quickly. Make sure you shop around.  Check multiple dealerships, research the most reputable auto-selling websites, and even check marketplaces on social media.  In some cases, it may be worth driving a couple of hours to get the best price for the best car.  Take the time to have a proper inspection done on any used cars and even consider hiring an independent, trusted mechanic to give you peace of mind that the car you choose is reliable and safe.
  3. Secure the proper insurance. Make sure you speak with a trusted advisor about what auto insurance options are best for you.  Your budget may guide you toward a higher or lower deductible based on what you can afford in a monthly or quarterly payment.  Based on your commute, or how often you think you will drive the car, you may want more or less collision or liability coverage.  Reach out to the experts at SFM Insurance.  We will take the time to fully understand your needs and recommend the best coverage for your individual needs.

Getting yourself into a new ride for the Summer may be just the thing you need to get over the long Ohio Winter.  With a little due diligence and the right auto insurance coverage, you can be enjoying your new (or new-to-you) car in no time.  We’re here to help.
